Once again, Ashley was witness to Mercy’s milestone…or was she the catalyst?!? Hi everyone, this is Mercy’s mom. Mercy’s napping so I’m taking the opportunity to tell you about her big day yesterday. Ashley was over for tea, and I had just finished telling her that Mercy was showing no interest in crawling, but she loves to walk across the room if I hold her hands and steady her. Literally within the hour, Mercy, casual as you please, just crawled on over to Ashley’s purse to see what was instead. I was dumbfounded! I had truly thought she’d given up on crawling. She’s been doing this funny downward dog to sitting movement that looks like she’s trying to stand up. And you all know she’s been pulling up for a little while now. She long ago gave up the “rocking on all fours” that everyone says means crawling comes soon. All signs pointed to skipping the crawling. And yet, there she was, nonchalantly crawling across the living room. I didn’t believe my eyes. I’m afraid I completely failed to give her any positive reinforcement. I picked her up, plopped her back down where she started, and tried to make her do it again! Well, you can’t make a baby do anything. But sure enough, ten minutes later, she was crawling again. No biggie. This time I made sure to clap and praise her. She looked at me like, “What? It’s no big deal, mom.” And so, Mercy can crawl. We’d better get her room baby-proofed.
